The focus, though, was on Arsenal's new signings, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zichenko, and William Saliba. Despite being signed three years previously, Saliba was making his competitive debut for Arsenal. He was named the match's man of the match.
Jesus made a strong start to the game and came close to being rewarded for his efforts after a frantic run inside Crystal Palace's penalty area. However, his final shot on goal was stopped, and Martinelli was unable to capitalize on the rebound. Martinelli promptly made amends as a corner kick was whipped into the area and found an unmarked Zinchencko, who headed back into the area and Martinelli guided it past a helpless Vicente Guaita in the Crystal goal. Arsenal remained the stronger team, with the hosts only gaining momentum in the final five minutes of the first half.
Three points for The Arsenal.
